Final touches

Due to the repetitive use of flashing images, lights and strobe light in our video it has been necessary for us to include a warning at the start of our video to ensure the safety of our viewer. To do so we have created a short warning image which we will add to the beginning of our video:

Editing

As our song is extremely fast paced our editing had to be very tight and also as you can imagine consisted of some very short sharp shots. Here are some examples of our editing which was carried out using Final Cut Pro:

In the image above you can see the editing which helped to create our second time lapse which flashes between Harry with strings on his arms to the clowns face. This was created using the slice tool, which allowed us to cut up the footage and place in the small parts of footage with the clowns face which gave us the effect of it flashing between.
This image is the timeline screen shot of our main chorus flashing between shadows and harry sitting againt the wall with no shadows. A similar technique was used as the editing just mentioned however as we wanted the two shots repeated a number of times we simple edited the two shots separately to make them the length and speeds we wanted then dropped them into the timeline and copied and pasted.

The use of overlay was also something that we used quite frequently in our video. Often rather than overlaying two shots we overlaid the transitions between them using the cross dissolve on the video transitions. The use of cross dissolve was extremely effective in conveying the idea of tormented and taunting that the character feels. It also poses the question to the viewer between dream and reality which is another message that we wanted to convey which was made possible through the use of overlays.

Poster Development,

3) Final

2)

1)
This is the second version where we made our adjustments, overall we are happy with the look of this poster now however there are just a few final tweeks we need to made. From asking for opinions from our target audience, we found a few spelling errors in the magazine advertisement, so we corrected them to produce the advertisement above. They also suggested that we reduce the size of the white text at the bottom.

This was our first attempt of for our magazine poster. There are some elements which we feel are very strong but on reflection some parts are weak. After some verbal feedback from our classmates we decided that the images worked very and we loved the layout of the text and the HMV banner. However we felt that the Killers in yellow clashed with the colours of our poster and also felt this should be bigger as our research has shown the Killers is usually the largest font on the page in their existing products. From this research we also felt that the title of the album should be featured on this page as the advert is designed to promote this album and therefore must shown the name of it.

Planning our poster

In response to our research we have now begun to plan our poster layout. We had a very clear collaborative disscusion about how we wanted it to look in conjuction with the conventions we had found out from our research. It was clear what information needed to be placed on the advert such as release date and quotations etc. So creating the template was not too hard. Also because we were so certain of the layout, we only needed to draw one template.

Storyboard and making the anamatic

Now that we have decided on a rough idea we need to begin to story board our ideas to give our video direction. After this we will use our story board to create an anamatic on final cut. This will enable us to have a clear view of how our video will/should look. This will allow us to be organised on set as we will be able to devise a filming schedule and what props we will need etc.
Firstly before drawing the final story board we did a rough draft so that we could fit what images we wanted to the timing of the music. After this Hulya went and drew the final storyboard at home. After she did this the pictures were scanned into the computer and we could edit them to fit in time with the music.

There were still a few blanks which we have not quite decided on yet but we are continuing to think of ideas and hope that once we begin filming we will have some inspiration. After the storyboard was scanned into the computer we uploaded it to the Apple Macs and imported the images and music to final cut where we began to create our anamatic.

Dragons Den Pitch

In order to get started on our video and filming we first had to obtain approval from our teacher that our idea would work. Each group had to individually pitch their ideas to her and if she did not think it was suitable it was back to the drawing board. However we felt that we now had a solid idea with reasoning behind it which suited the music and lyrics of our chosen song.
In our pitch we presented our moodboard to Mrs Mcluckie which gave an overall vision of what we had got from the song in the early stages; the things it made us feel and think and our reponse to certain lyrics. We also made a short powerpoint presenation explaining how we got to this point and how our ideas developed to give her a sense of what direction we were going in. (as seen below)

After this we also presented our mood board and then proposed our main narrative storyline idea.Once we had finished our pitch, our teacher gave us the go ahead for our ideas but also gave us some advice concerning past examiners remarks etc. She then advised us to go and watch our favourite music video and idenitfy things which make them memorable and things that we want to achieve in our own video.
